2. Green Machine

Green Machine

My VW bus caught fire a few weeks ago and it burned to the ground. I shared a lot of memories with my green machine in a song. The darkest days The toughest times Our journeys through the enemy lines You were there when things were great She saw your handsome license plate She smiled at you You smiled back You met her off the beaten track You picked her up You drove her there The wind was blowing her black hair The brightest days The best of times Bowling on Saint Valentines? You were there when things were great You brought us home when it got late She kissed you as the dogs went wild Chauffeured her around When she was with child You took her almost everywhere It was a lovely love affair The darkest days have come again Our journeys have come to an end The fire burns in your sad eyes No answers to the "whys"

5. Pioneer

Pioneer

John and Arah left Baltimore and settled on the banks of Twenty Mile Creek ca. 1800. You left your home But you brought your nose You took your wife and your kids And your horse and your clothes Venturing out  Into the Great Unknown With your King James bible And an old iPhone “Are we there yet dad?” I heard the young one say “Another mountain to pass, Another month and a day” “This looks like the place Where I wanna spend my life, The banks of 20 Mile Creek Amongst the wild, wildlife” "When they find my bones With my teeth in my jaw Hope it’s another pioneer Who needs my axe and my saw"

7. Steel Grip

Steel Grip

I've been working on a story on and off for 3 years. I liked the concept, but it just didn't do what I hoped it would in storybook form. One day, Particle Dots asked if I was going to participate in the 2017 RPM Challenge, and immediately I knew that I would, whether I finished in time or not. I decided to treat my storybook idea as a song, and possibly an album. I knew it would help the rhythm of the lyrics and in fact it did improve the structure, and as I worked on it, it became an album. Thanks to a few MJ friends for the inspiration and the help on the songs to follow.

12. Blacksmith

Blacksmith

Samuel was a Blacksmith. His wife Nancy died soon after their 11th child. I can only imagine that Myram, his second wife was probably mostly concerned about the 11 kids being taken care of than being his wife. Morse Code was invented while Nancy was alive, so I imagined that Sam tried to use this new technology to reach his dead wife. Listen for his message to her. I hope you understand You left us so alone A busy working man With 11 kids in a 1 room home A lovely friend of mine I think you knew her, dear. She fed the kids And she sent them to school In clean clothes, On time, And she slept near He’s a strong man With a sun tan And a sweating hand A big hammer that goes Bam Bam!! Hammer! Nail! Horse Shoe! Pail!
